Today Visa and eight financial institution partners announced a new pilot program whereby Visa cardholders can receive SMS alerts directly on their phones whenever there is activity on their account. Most transaction types can be tracked, and the notifications are sent within seconds or minutes of when the transactions take place. The eight banks participating in the pilot are: PNC Bank, SunTrust Bank, U.S. Bank, Wachovia, and Wells Fargo in the United States, and Royal Bank of Canada, TD Bank Financial Group, and Vancity in Canada.
